Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-03-27

Omnigram ("we", "us", or "our") is an open-source, self-hosted book library and reading application. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the Omnigram mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service").

1. Self-Hosted Architecture

Omnigram is designed to be self-hosted. Your book library, reading progress, annotations, and all personal data are stored on your own server (NAS, homeserver, or cloud instance) that you control. We do not operate a central server that collects or stores your data.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information Stored Locally

The app stores the following data on your device and your self-hosted server:

  • Book files you import (EPUB, PDF, etc.)
  • Reading progress and bookmarks
  • Annotations and highlights
  • Reading statistics
  • App preferences and settings
  • Server connection credentials (stored securely in platform keystore)

2.2 AI Features (Optional)

If you enable AI features, the app may send book excerpts and reading context to your configured AI provider (e.g., OpenAI, Claude, Ollama). This is entirely under your control:

  • You choose which AI provider to use (including fully local options like Ollama)
  • AI processing is initiated by your self-hosted server, not the app directly
  • No AI data is sent to Omnigram developers

2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit:

  • Personal identification information
  • Usage analytics or telemetry
  • Advertising identifiers
  • Location data
  • Contact information
  • Your reading content or habits

3. Network Permissions

The app requires network access solely to communicate with your self-hosted Omnigram server. The app does not contact any third-party servers unless you explicitly configure an external AI provider.

4. Storage Permissions

The app requests storage/photo library access to allow you to import book files from your device. Files are only accessed when you explicitly choose to import them.

5. Third-Party Services

Omnigram does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. The only external connections are those you configure yourself (your server, your AI provider).

6. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since Omnigram is self-hosted, parental oversight of the server configuration is recommended.

7. Data Deletion

Since all data is stored on your own device and server, you have full control over your data:

  • App data: Uninstall the app to remove all locally stored data, or clear app data from your device settings
  • Server data: Delete your account from the server admin panel, or remove the entire server instance
  • Specific content: Delete individual books, annotations, or reading history from within the app

To request assistance with data deletion, contact us at the address below.

8. Security

The security of your data depends on your self-hosted server configuration. We recommend:

  • Using HTTPS for server connections
  • Keeping your server software up to date
  • Using strong passwords for your Omnigram account

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
